FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Laser Hair Removal
Is Laser Hair Removal for You?
The popularity of laser hair removal has grown due to indefinite delay of hair regrowth. Many men and women have enjoyed the benefits of tossing the razor and saying “goodbye!” to repeated waxing appointments. Read on to see if this is the right choice for you.

Am I a good candidate?
The laser hair removal system SkinMedic uses is appropriate for all skin types. Laser hair removal is only for hair with pigment. It has been found unsuccessful on blonde and white hair.

Is it painful?
Patients have reported a moderate degree of pain, which is alleviated by the application of instant cooling pack.  We also offer a numbing cream upon request. Some patients experience some redness and raised bumps for a few hours post treatment. Usually, 6 to 10 treatments are required.

How long will it last?
Unless you experience a hormonal change, the hair will be reduced indefinitely.

Microdermabrasion
What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a virtually painless and non-invasive process. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons define microdermabrasion as “a skin-freshening technique.” The process begins with the cleansing and toning of the skin. Then,  a device like a fine sandblaster is used to spray tiny crystals across the face, mixing gentle abrasion with suction to deeply exfoliate the skin. After the exfoliation, the your skin will be cleansed and toned again and followed with a sunscreen.

Are there side effects?
A patient’s skin will feel a slight windburn sensation. Very little redness will occur after treatment. Any redness typically subsides in 30 minutes to an hour. Some patients will experience peeling after the procedure, as the old skin continues the exfoliation process.

Will it work for my skin type? Microdermabrasion is for all skin types and ethnicities. However, patients with rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, and other problematic skin should consult with a dermatologist to see if microdermabrasion is appropriate for them.

What are the benefits?
Microdermabrasion removes the dead, outer layer of skin cells, oils and other build up. This removal not only gives the skin a healthy glow and improves texture, but it also allows skin care products to penetrate deeper in the skin.

How long will it last?
The effects will last for months, as long as you keep up your daily skincare regime. As with other skin rejuvenation techniques, more than one treatment may be needed to reduce or remove fine wrinkles and unwanted pigmentation. The ideal to maintain your results is to have the process done 4 times and, then, repeat the process once per month for the next three months.

Is it expensive?
Prices vary based on the area of the body treated and the frequency of treatment. At SkinMedic, a single session for the face only is $135, and multiple treatment discounts are available.
